My favorite part of the book thus far is when the man kills the drunk in the “one horse town,” and is then chased back to his house. I feel as though this seen just shows the state of the world in this time period. The fact that a man can kill another man and not be arrested is intriguing. In modern time if this were to happen the police would show up and either shoot him or carry him off in handcuffs.
When they follow the man back to his house it is also very interesting. He comes out on the porch and basically calls them all cowards. I am not sure why Twain includes this. It tells Huck that many grown men are cowards.
This whole scene is very confusing and I am not sure why it’s included. Huck seems to be confused. The man claims that all of the men who follow him are to pathetic and would never lynch him in the daytime. After hearing this they all leave. While this speech seems logical the man who delivered it had just shot a man. A lot of morals come into question here.
Huck finishes this fantastic day by going to the circus; quite random but so was this whole section.
I enjoyed this part because it is so random. It really makes us think and ponder why it is included. We must really think about why it was included, and after I did this I sill have can’t quite figure it out.
